Obligatory Introductory Post

When I was four, or about to turn four, Joy Cowley came to my library for a story reading. At some point she asked if anyone present had written a story themselves. To my mum's surprise, my hand shot up. Joy asked me what my story was about.

"I wrote cot."

"Oh, it's a story about a cot?"

"No, I wrote cot."

You see, I'd gotten to the stage where I was realising that you could string different letters together and make words. I'd cover a page with random string of letters and ask my mum what they spelt.

(I wonder if having to pronounce words like 'dksowefds' or liiwddsisong' was more or less annoying than having to read the imaginary book I'd present her with? That became problematic when I'd bring the same imaginary book back again, as I'd enjoyed it so much the first time, and she couldn't remember how the story went.)

One time I'd managed to write 'cot'. Hey, it might not have been as impressive as Joy's award-winning stories, but I was off to a great start!

From about then until I was 14, I wanted to be a writer. After that I had brief spells of wanting to be a psychologist, professional student, possible mathematician, but eventually came back to wanting to write again.

So.

Hi!

The thing about getting good at writing is you have to do it all the time. Hence, this blog. Which I'll endeavour to ramble away at, and will hopefully also use to post any writings I manage to get done and or want to share. Or we'll just play it by ear. I might just end up talking about Harry Potter all the time. (Much like in real life, really.)

Until next time (gotta work on a better sign off),
Bel

(Disclaimer: Real life event may have been added to for the purpose of this post. Hey, I was little, I can't remember exactly how things went!)
